Your cat has been talking to you all along — with the tail, the ears, the eyes, and the occasional teacup nudged off a table. Meolingo is a small lexicon of that language: sixteen words in Cat, set beside five field notes from a life shared with one grey tabby named Kevin.
About the book
Cats never needed words. They speak in the angle of an ear, the height of a tail, the length of a blink — and in what they push off the table at noon. Meolingo is a small lexicon of that language, set down the way a dictionary would.
It is arranged in three parts — The Body, The Voice and The Habits — with sixteen illustrated entries, from the slow blink and the bottle-brush tail to the trill, the purr, the table push and the 5 a.m. vigil. Each entry has a retro woodblock-style plate, a pronunciation, a definition and a short “in use” note.
Between the entries sit five short field notes from one ordinary life with Kevin, a grey tabby: the shelter card, the belly incident, five a.m., the sock, and the day it all made sense. It closes with a note on listening and a short index of every word.
For new cat parents, old cat parents, and anyone who has ever been chosen, ignored, and chosen again.
